Before they 'fixed it up', the Vern on Belmont was great. Still is pretty cool.

The Hungry Tiger on 28th & East Burnside

      Anything east of 82nd.

      What's slabtown like?
...and what's the name referring to?

I don't go downtown much these days, but I've wondered what was up there ever since I first saw the Slabtown sign.

Slabtown is apparently a hippie joint, but a bit older of a crowd. The jukebox is pretty kickin. I haven't been there much, but all I know is that it is cold and the ceiling leaks...but I guess that would be oh so perfect for the term 'dive,' now wouldn't it?

And please tell me if I'm wrong, but doesn't slabtown refer to the same deal as stumptown, i.e. the many many trees chopped down to build this city? Anybody...?
